From Camper to Counselor: Robyn
Hi I’m Robyn! I’m currently seventeen years old and live in South Florida. This past summer was my 5th summer at Timber Lake Camp!
As a senior in high school, I am extremely active in both my local and school community. My hobbies include playing tennis, traveling, and volunteering. I was never the kind of kid that was interested in going to sleep away camp and was content with spending my summers at home – that is, until I saw Timber Lake Camp and fell completely in L-O-V-E with it!
My cousins were current campers at the time and convinced me to go to Rookie Day. Although I was reluctant to attend, it totally convinced me to go to TLC. As soon as I saw the beauty of Saddle Mountain and experienced a day in the life of as a camper, I was hooked. Being a camper at Timber Lake gave me the opportunity to have fun, relax, and enjoy just being a kid. This experience is largely responsible for person that I am today.
My Timber Lake journey began as a Senior and came full circle this past summer when I was a Junior Counselor for the Senior girls (12 and 13 year olds). As a counselor, I was truly able to understand all the hard work and dedication that goes into making the summer experience so amazing for each and every camper.
My favorite memory about camp is actually the first day of each summer, believe it or not. Since I’m from Florida, I always arrived the night before all of the New York and New Jersey campers and I’d immediately unpack and anxiously await the arrival of my bunkmates on the following day. On Opening Day, my best friends would run off the busses and up the hill with me to ensure they’d get the best beds. After reuniting and helping them unpack, I would look around and witness my summer home coming to life!
The people I’ve met at Timber Lake are incredible and the friendships I’ve made are unparalleled. Timber Lake has made me a more open minded, mature, and outgoing individual. These past five summers have been unbelievable, and I wouldn’t trade them for the world.
