From Camper to Counselor: Jessica
Hi Timber Lake Camp families! My name is Jessica (I’m in the center in the above picture with my girls!); I’m a former camper and now a counselor at Timber Lake Camp! I’m eighteen years old, grew up in Hewlett, New York, and just started my freshman year at Penn State University. I have two sisters, Arielle and Stefanie, who both spent numerous amazing summers at Timber Lake. I have one 5-pound Yorkshire Terrier named Sammi. I danced on the Lynbrook Varsity Kickline team for 4 years and took home a Long Island Championship trophy as captain my senior year!
In my spare time I enjoy playing tennis and going to the beach. My family and I love to travel and during our vacation time you can usually find us anywhere the sun is shining! 🙂
When I was younger, my two older cousins went to Timber Lake Camp and came home every summer with these amazing stories about their summers there. From then on, my sisters and I knew that Timber Lake is where we wanted to be. It’s crazy to think how fast time has passed and that I recently completed my 10th summer at TLC. Every summer is filled with new and exciting events that make each summer better than the last, regardless if you’re a camper or counselor.
Timber Lake has shaped me into the strong person that I am today. It is this very special place where I gained confidence and learned to believe in myself. Here, I tried activities that I never thought I would ever be able to do. Because of TLC, I have met new people from all over the world who I still keep in touch with today. Since becoming a counselor, I have strengthened my leadership skills, which have allowed me to challenge myself and take on new roles outside of camp.
However, what I love most about Timber Lake are the friends and the memories that I’ve made. Some of the best times of my life have taken place right there at camp – memories that I carry with me every day. No other camp can give you the type of experience like Timber Lake can, and the impact that this one-of-a-kind place can have on a person is truly invaluable.
