Hello Timber Lake Families! My name is Zach (I’m on the right!) and I’m a counselor at TLC. I am eighteen years old and from Jericho, New York where I grew up with my two siblings, Adam and Nicole. I have two wheaten terrier’s named Maggie and Honey. I played varsity tennis for three years, and I am an avid college basketball fan. I recently became a freshman at the University Of Connecticut, where I’m studying Political Science.
When I was younger, I went to Timber Lake’s sister camp North Shore Day Camp for two years, prior to coming to TLC. So I knew when I was ready for a sleep-away camp, Timber Lake would be the next natural progression as to where I would go.
It’s hard to believe that Summer 2014 will be my 9th year at TLC! The thing I love most about camp is that no matter how old you get, and no matter how many summers you’ve been there, the most recent summer is by far, always the best one. I can honestly say that as an 18 year old, I love camp just as much, perhaps even more than, when I was 9 or 10 just starting out.
My favorite memory from camp is an annual tradition that takes place every summer on the last night of camp… All of my bunkmates and I move our egg crates and sheets to the bunk’s floor, and we all sleep there together. Sounds silly, but each and every summer it actually took some of the sadness away that everybody felt knowing it was our last night together…
Timber Lake has truly given me a second family. There is no better way to build bonds with people than living with them for eight weeks, and just doing everything together. Camp has taught me to get along well with people that may not have the same interests as me, and has really fostered my ability to make friends with just about anyone. I would not be the person I am today without Timber Lake. There may be a lot of camps out there that kids go to, but there is only 1 Timber Lake Camp and I’m proud to call it my home away from home…
