Memory Lane ~ 2012 Jacobs Cup Champions!
We might be in the middle of winter, but we can’t help but thinking back to this past summer’s Jacobs Cup – that tournament was one long roller coaster of emotions! Don’t you remember????
We started out the day playing against a big, tough Tyler Hill team. However, we jumped to a quick lead with all of TLC cheering us on. But Tyler Hill kept fighting back. It seemed like each time Tyler Hill got close, Alec I. hit a three pointer to kill their momentum. That game ended 55-50 for TLC.
Next up we played and lost to a familiar foe, Seneca Lake, 43-41. We made some bad plays at the end of the game and it was a tough loss for us. But we didn’t have any time to dwell on it – the team had to bounce back and play the Semi-Final game against Camp Echo. The team responded to win a close game, 42-32, earning a spot in the championship game.
What a perfect night to remember for the first ever Jacobs Cup Championship Game to be played in the Tiger’s Den. Once again we took an early lead, and held the lead going into halftime. In the second half, Camp Wayne came out firing on all cylinders. Three pointers were dropping from everywhere. As if it couldn’t get worse, our key player Alec I. was injured while going up for a rebound. He was out for the game. Camp Wayne built a nine point lead after that with three minutes left. The crowd had gone into panic, but the team stayed calm. We as a team would respond to this challenge and fight back like we always do. We stormed back to tie it in regulation. Once we went into overtime, we knew we had them. Wayne looked tired and we were just getting started. We opened overtime up on a nine point run to clinch Timber Lake Camps 7th Jacobs Cup!
Through all the emotional ups and downs of that day this past summer, all we will remember is the joy of watching our campers hoisting up the Jacobs Cup as champions once again with the cheers echoing throughout camp from our TLC camp family!!!
